In detail

What your Team Fortress 2 server looks like at ZentexNode

What you can do with your Team Fortress 2 server

You get your own dedicated server, online 24/7, where you decide the maps, the rules and who gets in. It works just as well for playing with friends as for running a community server with plugins and custom maps.

In the panel you choose the starting map and enter your Steam GSLT token, which is what makes the server public. Plugins run on SourceMod and MetaMod and, like custom maps, are uploaded through the file manager or over SFTP.

You also get a live console, backups, scheduled tasks for restarts or commands, and sub-users. Anti-DDoS protection is included.

Which plan to choose

Team Fortress 2 is light on memory: it needs between 2 and 4 GB. Every plan includes 10 GB of NVMe storage per GB of RAM, as many stored backups and MySQL databases as it has GB of RAM, and 5 ports. Billing is monthly with no contract, and you can move to a plan with more RAM later from the client area without losing your data. As a guide:

  • 2 GB: a simple server with a few plugins.
  • 4 GB: a server with lots of plugins and custom maps.

How to get started

Pick a plan and complete the payment. Activation is automatic: the server is created for you and your login details arrive by email. In the panel, choose the starting map, add your GSLT token if you want the server to be public, and start it.

To join, open the in-game console and type connect followed by your server address, which is the same one you share with your group.

If you would rather not handle the configuration, Assisted setup is an optional one-off paid service in which a technician leaves the server configured for you.

Settings in server.cfg, plugins and maps

The panel covers the starting map and the token; everything else is set in the tf/cfg/server.cfg file: the server name, the join password, the RCON password or the time limit per map. Open it from the file manager, change the values and restart the server to apply them.

SourceMod needs MetaMod, so you install both before adding plugins. If you have a lot of files to upload, SFTP is the easier way: see how to connect over SFTP.

Before trying out new plugins, take a backup: here is how to create and restore one.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Team Fortress 2 hosting

The most common questions before setting up your Team Fortress 2 server.

Can I install plugins and maps?
Yes, we support SourceMod/MetaMod and custom maps.
Do I need anything to make it public?
A free Steam Game Login Token, which you set from the panel in a minute.
How do I change the server name or set a password?
In the tf/cfg/server.cfg file, with the hostname and sv_password variables. Save the file and restart the server.
Can I schedule automatic restarts?
Yes. The panel's scheduled tasks let you set up restarts, backups or console commands.
Can I give other admins access?
Yes. Sub-users let you give anyone access to the panel and choose their permissions. In-game admins are managed through SourceMod.
What if I outgrow my plan?
Move to a plan with more RAM from the client area. The server keeps its files and its configuration.
Where are the servers and what latency will I get in the US?
Our US node is in Miami, Florida. It is our closest location for players in the eastern and southern United States, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean; from the West Coast the distance is greater, so latency will be higher. We also have nodes in Spain and in the São Paulo region (Brazil), and you choose the location at checkout. Real latency depends on your internet provider; if you want to check it before buying, ask us on Discord.
Does it include Anti-DDoS and a no-commitment trial?
Yes, every plan includes Anti-DDoS Pro and there is no contract: you can cancel whenever you want.
What currency do I pay in?
Prices for the United States are in US dollars (USD) and you pay by card. There is no setup fee and no contract.
