How to enable and disable mods (BepInEx) on your Valheim server

🧩 What is BepInEx and why use it?

BepInEx is the most popular mod loader for Valheim. It lets you add content mods, quality-of-life mods (backpacks, shared map, bigger stacks) and admin tools. At ZentexNode you can enable and disable it yourself from the panel, with no ticket and no commands.

📁 1. Upload your BepInEx pack

Go to your server's Files tab and upload the contents of the BepInEx pack to the root folder. At a minimum you should end up with:

• BepInEx/ (folder with core and plugins)
• doorstop_libs/
• libdoorstop_x64.so
• doorstop_config.ini

The mods (.dll files) go inside BepInEx/plugins/.

⚙️ 2. Enable it from the variables

Open the Startup tab and find the BepInEx variable. Set it to 1 to enable it or 0 to go back to vanilla Valheim. You don't need to change anything else: our startup injects BepInEx safely while keeping your server's name, world, port and password.

🎛️ 3. (Optional) World modifiers

If you use game modifiers (difficulty, portals, death penalty…), put them in the Modifiers variable using the format -modifier deathpenalty casual -modifier portals casual. The field is validated to accept only valid modifiers.

🔄 4. Restart and check

Hit Restart. The first load with mods may take a little longer. To confirm BepInEx is loading, open BepInEx/LogOutput.log in Files: if you see recent lines like [Message: BepInEx] or [Info : Unity Log], it's injected!

↩️ 5. How to disable it

Want to go back to vanilla? Set the BepInEx variable to 0 and restart. Your mod files stay where they are (they're not deleted), they just stop loading. You can re-enable it any time by setting it back to 1.

🛡️ Does it break when Valheim updates?

No. BepInEx loads by injection (Doorstop) and does not modify the game files, so Valheim's automatic updates don't break it. If a specific mod stops working after a patch, just update that mod.
