What your Factorio server looks like at ZentexNode

What you can do with your Factorio server

The factory no longer depends on one player's computer: the save lives on the server, always available, and everyone joins when they can to keep expanding it.

From the panel, without touching a file, you choose the Factorio version, the save name, the server name and description, the password, how often the game autosaves and how many autosaves are kept, and the idle kick. The panel also gives you a live console, file manager, SFTP, backups, scheduled tasks and sub-users, with Anti-DDoS protection.

Which plan to choose

Plans differ by RAM, and in Factorio memory use grows with the factory. You do not have to get it right first time: billing is monthly with no commitment, and you can move to a plan with more RAM from the client area without losing your save.

  • 2-4 GB: a regular co-op game.
  • More RAM: late-game megabases, which are the ones that need the most memory.
  • Every plan includes 10 GB of NVMe storage per GB of RAM and 5 ports.

How to get started

Choose a plan and complete the payment: the server is created on its own and your login details arrive by email. In the panel, name the server, set a password if you want it private, and start it. If there is no save yet, the server creates a new map on startup. To join, each player chooses to connect to an address in Factorio's multiplayer menu and enters the server's.

If you would rather not set it up yourself, Assisted setup is an optional one-off paid service in which a technician gets it ready with the version, save, mods and settings you ask for. Support is handled through tickets on Discord.

Your save file and mods

The server loads the save whose name you set in the panel. To carry on with a factory you already have, upload your save's .zip file to the saves folder through the file manager or over SFTP (guide to connecting over SFTP) and enter that same name in the panel.

Mods go in the server's mods folder. Every player needs exactly the same ones, in the same versions; if someone is missing a mod, the game itself offers to sync with the server's when they connect. If your save uses mods, upload both.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Factorio hosting

The most common questions before setting up your Factorio server.

Is it dedicated 24/7?
Yes, the server is always on: join whenever you want and the game picks up where you left it.
Can I use mods?
Yes, you can add Factorio mods and manage them from the panel.
Do I need a factorio.com account for the server?
Only if you want it to appear in the public list: in that case you enter your factorio.com username and token in the panel. For friends who connect by address, you do not need one.
How often is the game saved?
That is up to you, through the autosave interval in the panel. On top of that there are backups, which store the server's files; see the backup guide.
Does everyone need the same Factorio version?
Yes, each player's game has to match the server's version. In the panel you choose which one is installed, so you can match it to your group's.
Can idle players be kicked automatically?
Yes. The idle kick is a panel option: you set the time, and the server disconnects anyone who stays inactive for longer.
Where are the servers and what latency do they have?
Our servers are in Spain, with 10 Gbps fibre: the lowest possible latency for players across Iberia and Europe.
Does it include Anti-DDoS and a no-commitment trial?
Yes, every plan includes Anti-DDoS Pro and there is no contract: you can cancel whenever you want.
