FiveM and RedM server: recommended or latest version?

FiveM and RedM server: recommended or latest version?

⚡ The short answer

Use recommended. It is the server version Cfx.re marks as the one to run, and the one that stays supported the longest. latest only makes sense when you need something the recommended build does not have yet.

One thing that rarely gets mentioned: what keeps the red “unsupported version” warning away is not which of the two you pick, it is updating the server every so often. A server does not update itself.

🧩 What each version is

Cfx.re publishes new server versions (called artifacts or builds, each identified by a number) almost every day. Two labels sit on top of that list:
  • recommended: the build Cfx.re considers tested. It changes every now and then, not daily.
  • latest: the newest build published, whatever it is. It has the newest features, and also the bugs nobody has found yet.
To give you an idea, on October 11, 2026 the recommended build is 35245 (it has been since August 20) and the latest is 37175.

RedM runs on the same server and the same builds as FiveM; the difference is the line set gamename rdr3 in the configuration. Everything in this article applies to both.

⏳ The end-of-support warning

Every build has an expiry date, and the Cfx.re rule is:
  • A recommended build is supported until 6 weeks after the next recommended build is released.
  • A latest build is supported until 2 weeks after the next build is released.
Since builds come out almost daily, a latest build expires in about two weeks. The recommended one lasts for as long as it stays recommended, plus six weeks. That is why installing latest “so the warning does not show up” does the exact opposite if you never renew it.

When a build runs out of support the server keeps working, but people joining see a warning:
  • Grey warning (end of support): players can still join.
  • Red warning (end of life): it can block the connection. On top of that, a build that has been unsupported for more than three months can no longer be joined from the server list.

📅 One date: October 15, 2026

Cfx.re has announced that the compatibility window ends that day and connecting to FiveM servers running a build older than 35245 will no longer be possible. If your server was installed before August 20, 2026 and you have not updated it since, do it before that date.

🎯 When to use latest or a specific build

  • New GTA Online content. Every game update needs a minimum server build. If you want one the recommended build does not support yet, you need latest.
  • A fix you need that only exists in a newer build.
  • A build number: when a framework or a script asks for an exact version, or to go back to one that worked for you.
If you go with latest or a number, set yourself a reminder to check it every two weeks.

🔧 How to change it on ZentexNode

  1. Make a copy from the Backups tab.
  2. In Startup, in the “Versión de FiveM / RedM” field, type recommended, latest or a build number (for example 35245). If the value does not exist, the recommended build is installed and the install log says so.
  3. Go to Settings and click Reinstall Server. This is the step that changes the version: saving the field on its own does nothing.
  4. Start the server and open http://your-address:port/info.json in your browser. The server field shows the build that is running.
Reinstalling keeps your server.cfg, your resources and the txData folder. What it does copy again are the base Cfx.re resources, so if you changed any of those, save them first.

Repeat these steps every time Cfx.re changes the recommended build, or once a month if you would rather not keep an eye on it. That way the warning never shows up.

If you are still setting the server up, here is how to install FiveM with txAdmin step by step. And if you are looking for a place to host it, see the FiveM server and RedM server plans.
