What your Don't Starve Together server looks like at ZentexNode
What you can do with your Don't Starve Together server
On a dedicated server your group's world is online 24/7 and doesn't depend on the host having the game open: everyone joins whenever they like. The surface and the caves run at the same time, each on its own port, so you can head down into the caves without anyone hosting the game on their PC. When nobody is connected, the game pauses itself and no days go by.
From the panel, without editing files, you choose the name and description shown in the game's server list, the password, the maximum number of players (up to 64), the game mode (survival, endless or wilderness), PvP, whether you want caves and the Workshop mods. You also get a real-time console, file manager, SFTP, backups, scheduled tasks and sub-users, with Anti-DDoS protection included.
Which plan to choose
The surface and the caves are two worlds running at once: freshly created and with no players, they already use about 2.3 GB of RAM. You pay month to month, with no minimum term, and you can move to a plan with more RAM from the client area without losing your world.
- 4 GB: a typical group with surface and caves.
- 6 to 8 GB: lots of mods or lots of players at once.
- Without caves, the server uses roughly half.
- Every plan includes 10 GB of NVMe storage per GB of RAM, one backup per GB and 5 ports.
How to get started
Choose a plan and complete the payment: the server is created on its own and your login details arrive by email. To start, Don't Starve Together needs a Klei server token, which is free and you get it yourself with your Klei account: on accounts.klei.com, go to Games → Game Servers, click “Add New Server” and copy the token. In the panel, paste it on the Startup tab, in the “Klei token” field, and press Start. The first time, both worlds are generated in a minute or two.
To play, look for the server by its name in the game's server list (Browse Games), or connect from the game console with c_connect and the address and port shown in the panel. If you would rather have someone else do the setup, Assisted setup is an optional one-off paid service: you give the token to a technician and they leave the server ready with the mode, mods and settings you ask for. Support is handled through tickets on Discord.
Caves, mods, updates and admins
Workshop mods are added by typing their IDs (the number in each mod's Steam address), separated by commas: the server downloads them and enables them on the surface and in the caves when it starts. Caves are turned on or off with another panel option.
The server updates itself on every start, because Don't Starve Together only lets players in with the same version their game has: when an update comes out, just restart it.
To be an admin in the game, add your Klei ID (it starts with KU_ and you can see it on your account page, from the game's Account button) to the adminlist.txt file in the DoNotStarveTogether/config/server folder, using the file manager or SFTP, and restart the server.
