What you can do with your Insurgency server
This is a dedicated server for the 2014 Insurgency, always online, for playing with your group or running a community on your own terms: which modes are played, whether there are bots, which maps rotate and whether a password is needed to get in.
The map the server starts on is chosen from the panel. The rest of the settings live in the configuration files, which you edit in the panel's own file manager with nothing to install. Plugins run on SourceMod and MetaMod and are uploaded as files.
The panel runs in your browser and includes a live console, file manager, SFTP access, backups, scheduled tasks for restarts or commands, and sub-users. Anti-DDoS protection is included.
Which plan to choose
Plans differ by RAM, and Insurgency does not need much: 2 to 4 GB is enough. If in doubt, start with the smaller plan; billing is monthly with no commitment, and you can move to one with more RAM from the client area without losing your data. Every plan includes:
- 10 GB of NVMe storage per GB of RAM.
- As many stored backups and MySQL databases as it has GB of RAM.
- 5 ports.
How to get started
Choose a plan and complete the payment. Activation is automatic: the server is created on its own and your login details arrive by email. Log in to the panel, pick the starting map and start the server. Then open the configuration files to set the modes, bots, map rotation and password, and restart to apply the changes. Players join with the server's address (IP and port).
If you would rather not deal with configuration files, Assisted setup is an optional one-off paid service in which a technician leaves the server configured with the modes, maps, plugins and settings you ask for. You can add it when you order or later from the client area. For anything else, support is handled through tickets on Discord.
Game modes, bots and map rotation
The main configuration is in the server.cfg file, inside the insurgency/cfg folder. That is where you set the password and the server's playlist, which decides whether it runs co-op against bots or player versus player, along with the number of bots in co-op games.
Map rotation goes in a mapcycle file. The game ships with several ready-made ones, split by mode (co-op, Push, Firefight, Skirmish and others), and in server.cfg you choose which one is used with the mapcyclefile setting. Make sure the rotation matches the playlist you picked: a map list built for player versus player does not fit a co-op server.
All of these files can be edited from the panel's file manager, or over SFTP if you prefer your own editor; the SFTP connection guide explains how.
