What your Project Zomboid server looks like at ZentexNode

What you can do with your Project Zomboid server

A dedicated server stays on 24/7 whether or not you're connected, so everyone in your group can drop in when it suits them instead of waiting for one person to host from their own PC.

You run it from a control panel in your browser, with a live console, a file manager, SFTP access, backups and scheduled tasks for restarts, backups or commands. Game settings such as sandbox options, difficulty, PvP, server name and password are changed in the configuration files, and if you already have a world in progress you can upload it. Anti-DDoS protection is included.

Which plan to choose

Plans differ by RAM, and this game uses a lot of memory, even more with mods, which is why plans here start at 6 GB. Each one comes with 10 GB of NVMe storage per GB of RAM and 5 ports, billed monthly with no minimum term. If the server starts to feel cramped, you can move to a plan with more RAM from the client area without losing your data.

As a rough guide:

  • 6 GB: a small group with a few mods.
  • 8 to 12 GB: lots of mods or more players.
  • 16 GB or more: communities running dozens of mods and added maps.

Getting started

Pick a plan and complete the payment. Activation is automatic: the server is created for you and the login details arrive by email. Use them to open the panel, set the server name and password, add any mods you want and start the server. Then all that's left is to share the address and password with your group.

If you'd rather not handle the configuration yourself, there's Assisted setup: an optional one-off paid service in which a technician gets the server ready with your world, mods and settings. You can add it when you order or later from the client area. If you have questions, support is handled through tickets on Discord.

Workshop mods without editing files

The panel has a Mods tab for Steam Workshop. Paste in a whole collection or add mods one at a time, and the panel sets them up for you. There's no need to edit files by hand.

Keep in mind that mods push memory use up, so it's worth revisiting your plan as the list grows. Our guide to adding mods to Project Zomboid walks through the process, both for individual mods and for a full collection.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Project Zomboid hosting

The most common questions before setting up your Project Zomboid server.

How much RAM do I need?
6 GB for a small group with few mods; 8 to 12 GB if you run many mods or have more players.
Can I use Workshop mods?
Yes, you can add Steam Workshop mods and manage them from the panel.
Can I carry on with a game I've already started?
Yes. You can upload your own world through the panel's file manager or over SFTP and keep playing on the server.
How do I change the difficulty, PvP or sandbox settings?
Those settings, along with the server name and password, live in the configuration files, which you can reach through the panel's file manager or over SFTP.
Can I give other admins access to the panel?
Yes. Sub-users let you give friends or admins access and decide which permissions each of them has, without sharing your own account.
How many backups and databases does a plan include?
As many stored backups and MySQL databases as the plan has GB of RAM: an 8 GB plan gets eight of each. You can also automate backups with scheduled tasks.
Where are the servers and what latency do they have?
Our servers are in Spain, with 10 Gbps fibre: the lowest possible latency for players across Iberia and Europe.
Does it include Anti-DDoS and a no-commitment trial?
Yes, every plan includes Anti-DDoS Pro and there is no contract: you can cancel whenever you want.
